Furman Places 39 on Spring Academic All-Conference Team
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman paced all Southern Conference schools with 39 selections to the league's spring academic all-conference team, it was announced today.
A total of 311 student-athletes were named to the team, comprised of representatives from baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track & field, and men's and women's tennis.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season and were required to compete in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently concluded spring campaign.
With 10 honorees, Furman's baseball team topped the Paladin contingent followed by six selections from both the men's and women's track & field squads. Furman's men's and women's tennis teams both placed four representatives on the team, as did softball. Women's golf had three honorees, and Paladin men's golf team had two student-athletes named to the squad.
Earlier this week the NCAA honored five Furman University athletic teams with public recognition awards for their latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
The five Furman teams cited include women's cross country, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track, volleyball, and women's tennis.
The honored Paladin teams posted APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports for the past four years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes both retention at an institution and academic eligibility in its calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
