GREENVILLE, S..C -- The Furman men's tennis team will entertain Presbyterian Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in the Paladins' home opener. The match marks the 30th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins won last season's meeting in Clinton, 6-1, to take a 21-8 lead in the series.
Furman (1-4) historically has been very successful on its home court. Over the past eleven seasons the Paladins have lost only 19 home matches, posting an impressive record of 85-19 since 2002.
The Paladins, who opened the 2013 season with a 6-1 win over Florida A&M but have dropped four-straight matches to highly ranked competition, are led by senior Andrew Mellow, who was named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles in 2012 after posting a 13-10 overall singles record and 6-4 league mark in the top spot for the Paladins.
Presbyterian (2-4) opened the season with losses to South Carolina, Troy, and USC Upstate then rebounded with a 4-3 win at Appalachian State and a 4-2 victory over Wingate. The Blue Hose dropped a 4-0 decision at Davidson last weekend. Presbyterian will play host to College of Charleston Saturday before traveling to Greenville on Sunday.
