GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team plays host to College of Charleston Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C., to open the 2013 Southern Conference season.
The match marks the 39th meeting between the two schools. The Cougars defeated the Paladins, 6-1, during the 2012 regular season then beat Furman, 4-0, in the second round of the SoCon Tournament. The Paladins lead the all-time series, 28-10.
Furman enters the match with a 2-8 overall record. The Paladins dropped a 4-3 match at #53 Santa Clara and fell to #49 Stanford during the team's Spring Break trip to California last week. The Paladins opened the trip at the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament, where Furman senior Andrew Mellow and junior Joel Cook reached the tournament's consolation finals.
The College of Charleston brings a 3-6 overall record and 1-2 league mark to Greenville after defeating Davidson, 4-3, last Sunday. Earlier this season the Cougars opened the SoCon slate with losses at Chattanooga (4-3) and Samford (6-1).
