GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will open the fall season September 13-16, with the Paladins competing at both the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., and the USC Upstate Fall Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
Senior Alex Christ, junior Luke Synn, sophomore Matt Browne, and freshman Juan Sheppard will compete at Georgia, while senior Joel Cook, junior Jacob Behal, and two other Paladins that are yet to be determined will play at USC Upstate.
The Southern Intercollegiate Championships, which feature players from Alabama, Armstrong Atlantic, Barry University, Charlotte, Clemson, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Florida Atlantic, Furman, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia Gwinnett College, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Lander, Liberty, Mercer, Murray State, Portland, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, UAB, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Winthrop, will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Furman returns ten players from last season's team that posted a 9-14 overall record and a 5-5 mark in Southern Conference play. Head coach Kelly Jones, who is entering his third season with the Paladins, guided the team to the quarterfinals of the league tournament in 2012. Browne returns after being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team last season.
