GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis 2014 schedule was announced today by head coach Kelly Jones.
The Paladins will open the season January 11-12 at the Seminole Quad Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. Furman will face South Alabama on the tournament's opening day before squaring off against Florida Atlantic and host Florida State to conclude tournament play.
Furman travels to in-state foes Clemson and South Carolina later in January before opening the home season versus Winthrop on February 1. Regional competition against Garner-Webb and Presbyterian will complete the February schedule.
The Paladins open the Southern Conference spring schedule at home against Georgia Southern on March 2 then hit the road for a spring break trip to California where Furman will play at Stanford, Pepperdine, Cal Poly, and Southern California. Iowa visits Greenville on March 18 to complete the non-conference schedule.
League play will continue through March and April, as the Paladins face UNC Greensboro and The Citadel at home before traveling to Samford, Chattanooga, and Appalachian State. The Paladins will honor the team's seniors in their final home match on April 11, when Furman takes on Wofford.
The Southern Conference Tournament is slated for April 16-19 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Furman returns ten players from last season's team that posted a 9-14 overall record and a 5-5 mark in Southern Conference play. Jones, who is entering his third season with the Paladins, guided the team to the quarterfinals of the league tournament in 2012. Matt Browne returns after being named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team last season.
