Furman Remains Unbeaten In SoCon Play With 5-2 Win At Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Furman men's tennis team defeated Samford, 5-2, Friday at the Samford Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala., to remain unbeaten in Southern Conference play.  With the win, the Paladins extended their winning streak to four matches.

The Paladins picked up wins in the top two doubles matches, as senior Joel Cook teamed with sophomore Matt Browne for an 8-5 win over Elliot Barnwell and Trey Carter at flight one, and junior Jacob Behal and freshman Adam Steryous beat Fares Kilani and Austin Akers, 8-6, at number two.  Furman won by forfeit at flight three.

In singles play, Browne defeated Kilani, 7-6(8-5), 7-6(8-6), at flight two, and junior Luke Synn notched a 6-4, 6-3 win versus Akers at number three.  Behal held on for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory versus Sullivan at flight five, and Furman won by forfeit at flight six.

The Bulldogs captured two singles points, as Barnwell recorded a 7-5, 7-5 advantage over Steryous in the top flighted match-up, and Carter bested Cook, 6-4, 6-2, at number four.

Furman (10-7, 4-0 SoCon) will travel to Chattanooga Sunday for a 3 p.m. match-up.
