GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head men's tennis coach Kelly Jones announced today the addition of two athletes to the 2014-15 squad.
Cameron Green of Sydney, Australia, has signed to compete for the Paladins beginning in the fall. Green, who is ranked No. 115 nationally in the Australia men's rankings, was the top ranked player in his age group in New South Wales and won the U18 New South Wales championship. He helped his team to a second-place finish in the Australian Schools Competition after winning three straight association championships.
"We are very excited to announce the addition of Cameron to our program," said Jones. "His passion and desire to be a great player make him a top prospect coming out of Australia. Cameron will fit in perfectly with our team culture and goals."
Chris Pearce, who hails from Bath, England, will also join the team next season. He was ranked among the top 20 Under 16 players in Europe and achieved a ranking of No. 190 by the International Tennis Federation. Pearce, who won the Under 12 British national championship, was ranked as high as sixth in Europe as a U14 and won both the Malta singles grade 4 ITF competition and the Czech doubles grade 1 ITF tournament. The European Winter Champion for both U14 and U16, Pearce remains the only player from Great Britain to have won both age groups.
"Chris will impact our program greatly through his intense international tennis experience," said Jones. "His commitment and maturity on and off the court will add tremendously to our rising list of quality student-athletes on our team. We look forward to the day he arrives in Greenville!"
