Junior year (2015-16): Steryous was named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles after recording a 12-10 overall mark and 3-4 league record at flight one. He put together a six-match winning streak in March, beginning with a 6-0, 7-6(5) victory versus USC Upstate and ending with a 7-5, 6-2 win against UCF. Steryous scored SoCon victories over Chattanooga, the Citadel, and Mercer and beat Samford, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Championships. He teamed primarily with Josh Pistorius at flight three doubles and posted an 11-10 overall record and 4-2 SoCon mark. The Paladin duo teamed up for a 7-6(2) win at #54 Duke in February, which was the start of a six-match winning streak that lasted through most of March.
Sophomore year (2014-15): Steryous teamed with Cameron Green to garner All-Southern Conference accolades at flight one doubles, marking Steryous’ second-consecutive all-conference citation. Steryous went 9-9 overall and 4-3 in league matches in singles, playing at the flight one position. He picked up a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10) victory at #27 South Carolina then defeated #54 Princeton, 7-5, 6-2, and #62 Troy, 6-2, 6-3. Steryous won four-straight league matches from March 28 through April 12, gaining wins against Chattanooga, Samford, The Citadel, and UNCG, then he posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory versus Chattanooga in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament. In doubles, Steryous and Green tallied a 15-3 overall record and 5-2 league mark, playing mostly at flight two. The Paladin duo recorded four wins over ranked competition: #54 Princeton, #67 UCF, #62 Troy, and #20 USF then opened conference play by winning four of their first five matches. Steryous and Green defeated Chattanooga, 8-1, in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament then beat ETSU, 8-6, in the SoCon Championship match.
Freshman year (2013-14): Steryous was honored as the 2014 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year after posting a 15-9 overall singles record and a 7-2 conference mark. He also garnered a spot on both the All-SoCon first team for singles and the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. Steryous, who concluded the season ranked #112 in the final ITA poll, began the season in the flight three singles spot, moved up to the number two position, and ultimately took over Furman's flight one singles slot where he posted a record of 7-5. He defeated 27th-ranked Alex Sarkissian of Pepperdine, 4-6, 7-6(1), 10-7 at flight one singles during the team’s spring break trip to California and was chosen the SoCon Player of the Week after recording a 4-0 combined singles & doubles record during the last week of the regular season. Steryous was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Prep/Personal: A five-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, Adam Steryous competed under coach Ryan Haviland at Greer Middle College, where he was ranked 22nd nationally. The second-ranked player in South Carolina and in the Southern Section, Steryous completed the 2013 season ranked 11th among all players in the Southeast. A member of the Southern Boys’ 18’s National Team, he won two Bullfrogs, the Southern Level 2 and the National Level 4, and was the top-ranked player in the state for Boys 18’s. Steryous was undefeated in high school play, earning player of the year accolades and all-region honors. Michael Adam Steryous was born on May 31, 1995, in Taylors, S.C. to Todd and Lena Steryous. He plans to study business.
