    Furman avenged last weekend’s regular season loss to Mercer, defeating the second-seeded Bears, 4-1, Saturday in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Championships at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.  With the win, the No. 3 Paladins (19-7, 5-2 SoCon) advance to the championship match against top-seeded East Tennessee State, which will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. at McCallie School.

    Furman cruised to a 4-0 victory over Wofford in the opening round of the Southern Conference Championships Friday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The Paladins (18-7, 5-2 SoCon), who entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 Mercer Saturday at 10 a.m. in the second round.

    Furman’s Ivan Mitric was honored as the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year, while Cameron Green and Jake Munns earned all-conference first team citations, as announced today by the league office.  Postseason balloting was conducted by the league’s head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

This is the third weekly award of the season for Green, who helped Furman to a 1-1 record last week. Green wraps up his four-year career with six weekly awards to his name.

    Furman’s Cameron Green has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 20-26, the conference announced Tuesday.  The Paladins went 1-1 last week, moving to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  This is the second weekly award of the season for Green and fourth of the year for Furman.
