GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will open the fall season September 8-10 at the USC Upstate Fall Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. Senior Josh Pistorius, sophomores Trevor Croyder and Jake Bhangdia, and freshman Michael Clarke will compete for the Paladins this weekend.
The tournament will feature two singles draws of 16 players each and a doubles draw with 16 teams. Furman will compete against USC Upstate, Presbyterian, UNC Asheville, Belmont Abbey, and Kennesaw State during the weekend of competition. Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day, and admission is free.
"We are very excited to start the fall season this weekend at USC Upstate," said Furman head coach Kelly Jones, who is in his seventh season at the helm of the Paladin program. "The team has been working hard on the courts and in the gym to prepare for all the upcoming events."
Furman returns seven players from last season's team that posted a 17-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Southern Conference play. Jones guided the team to the semifinals of the league tournament in 2017. Senior Cameron Green was named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles last spring, while junior Jake Munns represented the Paladins on the All-SoCon first team for doubles. Munns was named to the All-SoCon second team at flight four singles, while sophomore Jake Bhangdia was honored with an All-SoCon second team selection at flight six singles. Jake Munns and Clarke Wilson were named to the 2017 SoCon All-Freshman Team.
