GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will compete at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships beginning this weekend at the Cary Tennis Park in Durham, N.C. The tournament will showcase the top men's tennis players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. Play will begin on Friday and continue through Tuesday.
"The ITA Regional Tournament is the premier fall event for our team," said Furman head coach Kelly Jones, who is in his seventh season at the helm of the Paladin program. "Our guys are ready both physically and mentally to compete against the top programs in our region."
Senior Cameron Green, junior Jake Munns, sophomores Jake Bhangdia and Trevor Croyder, and rookies Ivan Mitric and Drew Singerman will complete the Furman singles lineup. In doubles, Green will team with Munns, and Croyder and Mitric will compete together. Bhangdia and Singerman will form the final Paladin doubles team.
Furman returns seven players from last season's team that posted a 17-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Southern Conference play. Jones guided the team to the semifinals of the league tournament in 2017. Green was named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles last spring, while Munns represented the Paladins on the All-SoCon first team for doubles. Munns was named to the All-SoCon second team at flight four singles, and Bhangdia was honored with an All-SoCon second team selection at flight six singles. Munns and Clarke Wilson were named to the 2017 SoCon All-Freshman Team.
