No. 21 Florida State Downs Furman, 4-0, Sunday In FSU Spring Invitational Championship

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 21 Florida State downed Furman, 4-0, Sunday in the championship match of the FSU Spring Invitational, which was held this weekend at the Florida State indoor tennis facility in Tallahassee, Fla.  

The Seminoles picked up wins at flights two and three doubles to claim the opening point.  Guy Iradukunda and Aziz Dougaz topped senior Cameron Green and freshman Drew Singerman, 6-2, at flight two, and Terrance Whitehurst teamed with Terrell Whitehurst for a 6-1 victory over junior Alex Steryous and sophomore Jake Bhangdia at number three.  Paladin junior Jake Munns and rookie Ivan Mitric held a 4-3 advantage over eighth-ranked Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain in the top-seeded match up, which was unfinished.

Florida State claimed three singles wins to take the team victory, as Dougaz defeated Green, 6-1, 6-3, at flight one, and 22nd-ranked Iradukunda bested Mitric, 6-3, 6-2, at number three.  In the fourth-seeded contest, Gracia beat Singerman, 6-2, 6-4. 

Three singles matches were unfinished, with 24th-ranked Poullain leading Munns, 6-0, 5-6, at flight two, and Chase Wood held a 6-4, 6-0 lead over Bhangdia at number five.  In the sixth seeded match, Terrell Whitehurst led freshman Daniel Vishnic, 7-5, 1-0.

Following a three-week hiatus, Furman (2-1) returns home to face Presbyterian on Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in the team's 2018 home opener.
