GREENVILLE, S.C. -- With the score tied at 3-all, Carlos Kelaidis held off sophomore Jake Bhangdia, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, at flight five as Clemson outlasted Furman, 4-3, Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Tigers won two doubles matches to take the opening point. Sam Edwards and Yizhou Liu teamed up for a 7-6(2) victory over sophomores Trevor Croyder and Clarke Wilson at flight two, and Carlos Kelaidis and Marshall Dagostine beat freshmen Ivan Mitric and Drew Singerman, 6-4, at number three. The flight one match was unfinished.
In singles competition, Mitric scored a quick 6-2, 6-2 advantage versus Edwards at flight three to tie the score at 1-apiece, then the teams traded points at flights one and two. Simon Baudry defeated junior Jake Munns, 6-3, 6-2, at flight two, but Paladin senior Cameron Green slipped past Alex Favrot, 7-6(5), 7-6(5), in the number one contest to knot the score at 2-all.
Liu came from behind to put Clemson back on top with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win versus Singerman at flight four, but freshman Daniel Vishnick topped Wes Quattlebaum, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to keep the Paladins in the match and set up the decisive flight five match-up.
Furman (15-6, 3-1 SoCon) will play at Samford Saturday at 1 p.m.
