GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will play host to Mercer Monday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C., in the Paladins' home finale. Special giveaways, including plastic bracelets and sunglasses, will be available for fans.
Over the years, Furman has been very successful on its home court. Over the past 16 seasons the Paladins have lost only 31 matches at home, posting an impressive record of 135-31 since 2002.
Furman enters Monday's match with a 13-4 overall record and 5-1 SoCon mark after defeating Samford, 6-1, on Saturday. Junior Jake Bhangdia boasts a 12-3 singles record at flight four, and sophomore Drew Singerman is 14-0 in singles play. Jake Munns is 12-3 in singles action. Two Paladin doubles teams are 10-2 overall: Ivan Mitric & Munns at flight one, and Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson at flight two. At flight three, Henrik Atlevi and Singerman are 9-1 overall and 5-1 in SoCon play.
The match marks the ninth meeting between the two schools. The teams split last season's two meetings. The Bears defeated the Paladins, 4-3, during the regular season in Macon, then Furman avenged the loss with a 4-1 victory over Mercer in the semifinals of the SoCon Championships. Mercer is 10-11 overall and 3-1 in league play after beating UNCG, 6-1, Sunday.
