GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Having dropped two straight, including a 79-69 setback at Elon last Friday, Furman returns home for its next two games, beginning with Wednesday's 7:00 p.m. clash with Western Carolina in Timmons Arena on YP.com Court.
The Paladins and Catamounts enter the contest tied for seventh in the league standings, a half game behind sixth place College of Charleston. Last year Furman and Western Carolina split a pair of meetings, with Furman winning 57-54 in Cullowhee and Western Carolina claiming a 51-48 overtime verdict in Greenville.
Furman is paced in scoring by senior guard Teshia Griswold (13.6 ppg), who tallied 18 points in the loss to Elon. To turn around its season, Furman will be looking for defensive improvement following recent losses to Davidson and Elon that saw the Wildcats and Phoenix combine to shoot 53.2 percent and average 83.0 ppg.
Western Carolina comes to Greenville having lost four straight and nine of its last 10, its lone win since Dec. 3 being a 54-40 home triumph over Wofford. The Catamounts, who dropped a 70-43 decision to Chattanooga last Friday, average just 49.2 ppg and lack a double figure scorer. Senior guard Diamond Hunnicutt leads the way (7.6 ppg) followed by Ali Lane (6.7 ppg), a sophomore guard.
The Furman-Western Carolina game will be streamed and broadcast online by StretchAudio through Furman All-Access at www.furmanpaladins.com, with Bryant Lambert on the call. Live stats will be provided through www.furmanpaladins.com and in-game twitter updates via twitter.com/FurmanPaladins
