GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team tips off its 2017-18 campaign on Sunday when it plays host to the College of Charleston in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.

The game will be live streamed (video only) over the SoCon Digital Network.  Fans can also follow the action via StatBroadcast live stats thru

Sunday's contest will be Military Appreciation Day, with both active duty and retired military, along with first responders, with  ID offered a free ticket for admission.

Head coach Jackie Carson's squad's starting lineup is expected to feature three seniors, a junior, and a sophomore, but Furman's bench will be composed entirely of freshmen — six to be precise.  A seventh freshman, guard Milica Manojlović, is out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason, an injury that has also sidelined sophomore guard/forward Tierra Hodges for the year.

The Paladins' top player is senior All-Southern Conference small forward Cierra Carter, who is coming off a 2016-17 season that saw her average 13.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.  The 5-foot-11 Columbia, S.C., native heads into the season with 919 points, poised to become the 23rd player in program history to reach 1,000 points.

Other projected starters include senior forward DeAnneisha Jackson (7.5 ppg/5.5 rpg), junior forward Kaitlyn Duncan (4.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg), senior guard Stephania Oramas (3.1 ppg, 1.6 rpg), and sophomore guard Le'Jzae Davidson (10.9 ppg), a SoCon All-Freshman Team selection a year ago.

The College of Charleston, which competed in the Southern Conference for over a decade before moving to the Colonial Athletic Association four years ago, opened its season on Friday with an 85-69 win at home over Lipscomb.

CofC is coming off a 9-21 campaign last year that included a 6-12 mark and seventh place finish in the CAA.  The Cougars were a preseason No. 10 pick in a poll of CAA head coaches.

Redshirt senior forward Tanisha Brown, a preseason second team All-CAA pick, tallied 21 points and claimed 12 rebounds in the win over Lipscomb.  Fellow senior Shiclasia Brown had an even more impressive offensive display, tallying a career high 29 points (9x17 FGs, 8x8 FTs) to lead the Cougars.

Furman, 14-17 last year, was a consensus fifth place pick in a pair of preseason SoCon polls conducted by head coaches and media.

Sunday's opener will be followed by home clashes against Davidson on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Kennesaw State next Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
