Strong Start Helps Furman Cruise Past Florida Atlantic, 73-57

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Celena Taborn scored a season high 18 points and Furman used a strong start to seize control en route to 73-57 victory over Florida Atlantic in women's basketball action Wednesday evening at Timmons Arena.

The victory, the fourth in the last five games for Furman (6-4), upped the Paladins' record to 5-1 in Timmons Arena this season heading into a week-long break for final exams.

Furman scored the first 11 points in the contest and never trailed.

The Paladins' quick start and poor shooting by Florida Atlantic, which connected on just 1-of-17 field goal attempts over the game's first 10 minutes, helped Furman grab an 18-5 lead after one quarter.

The Paladins doubled up the Owls 14-7 in the second quarter to take a 32-12 lead into intermission behind Taborn's 10-point first half effort.

Furman stretched their lead to as many as 24 points at 40-16 following a Petty layup three minutes into the second half.

Petty's 16-point effort also came via 7-of-9 shooting.

Le'Jzae Davidson rounded out Furman's double figure scoring trio with 10 points.

The Paladins shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-of-61) and continued their recent stretch of strong work at the free throw line, canning 15-of-17 tries.
