Furman’s Wearn Places Second At Lady Bulldog Individual Championship

Laura Wearn

Athens, Ga. – Furman's Laura Wearn fired a one-under 71 to claimed second place on Saturday in the University of Georgia's inaugural Lady Bulldog Individual Championship at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

The event, which included players from 12 different schools, was shortened from 36 holes to 18 holes following a frost delay in the morning.

Wearn, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., fired a 34 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine to finish two strokes off the pace set by medalist Mia Piccio (33-36=69) of the University of Florida.  Southern Cal's Annie Park claimed third place with Abby Newton of Ole Miss and Gaby Lopez of Arkansas rounding out the top five in the 38-player field.

Wearn, who earned All-Southern Conference honors a year ago and paced the Paladins in stroke average during the fall, qualified for last season's NCAA East Regional as an individual.
