Wearn Grabs A Share Of the Lead At FSU Match-Up Tournament
Tallahassee, Fla. – Furman's Laura Wearn (-4) posted a one-under 71 on Saturday morning to grab a share of first place after 36 holes in the Florida State Match-Up Tournament at the par-72 Southwood Golf Course.
The Charlotte, N.C., native played a bogey-free second round and notched a birdie at the par-4 No. 5. She is tied with first round leader Rocio Sanchez Lobato of the University of Georgia for the lead at four-under-par entering Sunday's final round.
Furman junior Aubrie Street (+1) followed a first round 72 with a one-over 73 to hold a share of eighth place thru 36 holes while freshmen Stephanie Carlozzi and Valentina Romero are tied for 42nd place at 12-over.
The Paladins (+21) compiled a 14-over 302 in Saturday's second round to hold sixth place in the 12-team field. Oklahoma (+6) holds a six-stroke lead over second place Florida State (+12) with Georgia (+14), Tennessee (+14) and Texas A&M (+19) rounding out the top five.
Furman, playing in the match-up portion of the spring opener with the Kansas Jayhawks, are in fourth place at 748. The teams of Georgia/Oklahoma (730), FSU/Texas A&M (735) and Tennessee/UTSA (745) hold the top three spots.
The FSU Match-Up field includes six of the top 50 teams in the country and 12 of the top 70 individuals in the nation.
Sunday's final round is set to tee off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
