Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The Furman women's golf team posted its best round of the weekend on Sunday with a 305 to claim 13th place in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,211-yard Long Cove Club.
The Paladins' Laura Wearn (+9) secured a share of 14th place at nine-over by recording three birdies on Sunday en route to a three-over 74. Freshman Valentina Romero (+16) posted a four-over 75 for the second straight round while Stephanie Carlozzi and Aubrie Street both finished the 54-hole event with a seven-over 78.
The University of Alabama shot a 291 on Sunday to erase a seven-stroke deficit and win the tournament at 24-over par. LSU and Vanderbilt tied for second at 28-over with Arizona State in fourth place and Arkansas and North Carolina tied for fifth.
Noemi Jimenez (-4) of Arizona State shot a three-under 68 on Sunday to take individual medalist honors. She finished four strokes ahead of second round leader Madelene Sagstrom (E) of LSU.
The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate field included 13 of the top-50 teams in the nation and 14 of the top-50 players in the latest GolfStat rankings.
Furman returns to action March 25-26, at the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C.
