Oxford, Miss. – Senior Laura Wearn carded a final round 74 to earn a share of eighth place and help the Furman women's golf team to a ninth place finish in the Rebel Intercollegiate at the par-72 Ole Miss Golf Course in Oxford, Miss., on Sunday.
Wearn (+2), a native of Charlotte, N.C., birdied just one hole in final round action, but she played the back nine at one-under par en route to her sixth top-10 finish of the season. Freshman Valentina Romero (+6) notched a six-over 78 to share 19th place while senior Alexa Rancourt (+12) posted the Paladins best round of the day with a two-under 70.
Furman (+34) posted a nine-over 297 on Sunday to hold onto a ninth place finish in the 18-team field. Coastal Carolina (-1) cruised to a nine-stroke victory over second place Baylor (+8) with Tulane (+14), East Tennessee State (+17) and Kentucky (+22) rounding out the top five.
Jessica Alexander (-8) of Coastal Carolina edged Baylor's Hayley Davis (-7) for individual medalist honors with a one-under 71 on Sunday to finish at eight-under par.
