Paladins Place Four Players In Top 13 To Finish Second At Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. -- Furman (-18) placed four players among the top 13 to place second Tuesday at the Cougar Classic at the par 72, 6,224 yard Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, S.C. 

The Paladins, who recorded 57 birdies and four eagles over the three-day tournament, placed second behind North Carolina (-26) who shot a tournament record 838 for the victory.  Wake Forest (-13) was third, followed by Florida State (-9) and UCF (-8).  Michigan (-1) finished sixth, while South Carolina (+5) and Auburn (+5) tied for seventh.  Arkansas (+7) and Louisville (+8) completed the top 10.  Chattanooga (+10), the only other SoCon foe in the field, finished 11th.  

The Paladins were led by sophomore Haylee Harford (-7) who tied for fourth after carding an even 72 on Tuesday.  Harford scored four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 15 and No. 16, to finish four strokes back of individual medalist Kelly Whaley (-11) of North Carolina, who fired a 71-66-68=205.  

Freshman Natalie Srinivasan (-5) tied for eighth place, scoring a 76 with two birdies in the final round, while freshman Carly Burkhardt (-3) and senior Taylor Totland (-3) tied for 13th.  Burkhardt paced the Paladins with a 68 on Tuesday after eagling the par-5 No. 15 and adding four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 8 and No. 9.  Totland (-3) birdied No. 17 and No. 18, plus added a birdie on No. 8, to shoot an even 72 in Tuesday's final round.  Junior Alice Chen (+8) tied for 70th with three birdies in round three.

The Paladins will compete at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., October 28-30.
