No. 26 Furman Wins Fifth-Straight SoCon Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – No. 26 Furman (+27) won its fifth-straight Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship Tuesday at the par-72, 5,980 yard Moss Creek Golf Club's South Course on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

With the win, the Paladins, who captured their 18th league title, clinched the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals, which will be held May 6-8.  The NCAA field will be announced live on the Golf Channel beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24.

Furman placed four players among the top ten, including senior Haylee Harford (+3), who tied for second after firing a 71 on Tuesday with a team-high five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to end the tournament.  Harford finished the tournament four strokes back of Monica San Juan (-1) of Chattanooga, who won individual medalist honors with a three-day total of 71-70-74=215.

Junior Natalie Srinivasan (+4) finished fourth after carding a 73 with three birdies on Tuesday, while sophomore Madison Moosa (+11) and freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+11) tied for tenth.  Moosa recorded a final-round 76, and Rhéaume posted a 73 with three birdies in the tournament's last round.

Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+15), who was honored with the 2019 SoCon Pinnacle Award, which is given annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the championship team, shot a 78 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 5 on Tuesday.

"We are all excited to win our fifth SoCon title in a row," said Furman head coach Jeff Hull.  "I was really proud of the team for batting back at the end, because the conditions were really, really tough, but they came through like I expected them to.  I am especially happy for Haylee & Jacqueline to end their career with another SoCon title."

Due to the SoCon tiebreaker process, ETSU (+41) claimed second place, while Chattanooga (+41) finished third.
