Greenville, N.C. -- Freshman Alexa Rancourt and junior Jackie Hilea each carded a two-over par 74 to help Furman to a 16th place finish on Saturday at the NCAA East Regional at the par-72, 6,321-yard Ironwood Country Club.
Rancourt (80-75-74=229) birdied two holes on her way to her best round of the tournament while Hilea tied her for 78th place with her best score of the three-day event. Freshman Laura Wearn (76-75-76=227) capped a strong showing with a final round 76 to post the second best three-day score for the Paladins at 11-over.
Junior Stefanie Kenoyer, who trailed the leaders by just five strokes entering the final round, struggled to a seven-over par 79 on Saturday and was forced to settle for a share of 39th place. The Lighthouse Point, Fla. native came into the weekend ranked 23rd in the GolfStat Cup Rankings.
Furman (305-296-303=904), which started the day in 18th place, climbed two spots on the final day of the 54-hole tournament and finished ahead of Southern Conference rivals Chattanooga and College of Charleston.
South Carolina (283-291-290=864) rallied past second round leader Duke to claim first place at even par. The Gamecocks finished two strokes ahead of second place Tennessee and four strokes in front of both Auburn and Duke. Vanderbilt, Tulane, Pepperdine and TCU rounded out the top eight finishers which will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Katie Burnett (67-72-71=210) claimed individual medalist honors at six-under par.
