Women’s Lacrosse Plays Host to Jacksonville, Stetson This Week

Greenville, S.C. – Women's lacrosse returns to Paladin Stadium today, playing host to Jacksonville at 6:00 p.m. before welcoming Stetson to campus on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Both games are set to be shown on ESPN3.

The Paladins enter the weekend looking to end a six-game losing streak. Furman dropped a 13-12 heartbreaker at Campbell last weekend, giving up the game-winning goal with just two seconds remaining. Despite the loss, Abby Shields was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, recording a season-high five goals and two assists for a season-high seven points. Shields leads the Paladins in goals, assists, and points on the season.

Jacksonville enters the weekend with a 5-3 overall record. The Dolphins' three-game winning streak was snapped last Wednesday in a heartbreaking 17-16 loss to Dartmouth. Senior captain Ashtyn Hiron set career-high marks with seven points (6 goals, 1 assist) and freshman Sarah Elms matched her career-high six points (5g, 1a) in the loss. For her effort, Hiron was named ASUN Player of the Week for the third time this season and fourth in her career.

Stetson (1-7) takes on Wofford on Thursday before heading to Paladin Stadium on Saturday. The Hatters have been on an extended mid-season break as they gear up for ASUN Conference play, which begins next weekend. Stetson (1-7) hasn't seen game action since a loss to George Mason on March 18 in DeLand. Stetson's offense is led by the trio of Shelby Lehmann, Taylor Patrizi and Karli Maguire, each of whom have 13 goals on the season. Hallie Merz leads the team with 10 assists.

Both games versus former ASUN foes will be shown live on ESPN3. Video and live stat links are available on FurmanPaladins.com and fans can follow @FUWlax on Twitter for periodic game updates.
