Washington, D.C. – Furman women's lacrosse used 12 goals in the first half to down Howard, 18-6, on Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The win moves the Paladins to 5-10 on the year, while the loss drops the Bison to 1-10.
The Paladins were led by Grace Pollak with four goals, while Isabelle Walsh and Cabell Zakas each added three. Hannah Feinberg and Sophie Brennan each added two goals and an assist, while Hannah Demis dished out three assists.
Furman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, before Howard netted its first goal of the day with 16:33 remaining in the first half. Morgan Franklin pushed the Paladins' lead back to four, but the Bison again cut into the lead with 14:11 to go, making it 5-2 with 14:11 remaining in the first. The Paladins and Bison each netted back-to-back goals, then one goal each to keep Furman's lead at 8-5 with 5:27 remaining, but the Paladins ended the half on a 4-0 run to take a 12-5 lead into halftime.
The Paladins opened the second half with five-straight goals to push the lead to 17-5, before the Bison ended the 9-0 run with 9:53 to go to cut Furman's lead to 17-6. Kyra LaMotte netted the game's final goal, giving the Paladins the 18-6 victory.
Furman is back in action on Sunday, traveling to Wilmington, Del., to take on Delaware State at Wilmington University.
