Greenville, S.C. – Furman women's lacrosse head coach Rachel Whitten announced the election of three players as team captains for the 2019 season.
"All three girls will add great leadership to each position on the field," said Whitten. "Morgan is a solid defender and extremely smart. Sophie is one of the hardest working people on our team. She makes an impact on both ends of the field and helps bring each unit together. Abby is one of the best shooters I have ever coached. She knows how to get the job done and her level of play helps to bring everyone up around her."
Franklin was the lone Paladin named to the All-Southern Conference First Team last season, while Shields and Brennan were each named to the All-SoCon Second Team. Franklin, an Alpharetta, Ga., native, played in 17 games in 2018, causing nine turnovers, picking up a team-leading 25 ground balls and winning a total of 55 draws. Shields led the Paladins in goals (35), assists (24), and points (59). Brennan finished sixth on the team in goals (18) as a midfielder and won a team-high 58 draws on the season.
Furman opens its 2019 season on February 9 with a home game against High Point.
