Greenville, S.C. – Ten regular-season home games and hosting the Southern Conference tournament, highlight Furman women's lacrosse's 2019 schedule, Furman head coach Rachel Whitten announced today.
In its fifth full season as a varsity sport, Furman women's lacrosse will play seven games away from Paladin Stadium. The Paladins are in their second year with the rest of Furman's teams as a member of the Southern Conference, after spending the first three seasons as a member of the Atlantic Sun. The SoCon and ASUN are in their second season as two separate conferences for women's lacrosse, with Furman joining Mercer, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Delaware State, and Wofford in the SoCon.
"We are looking forward to a great 2019 season," said Whitten. "We are excited to continue our out-of-conference competition with teams who are ranked in the top 20, as well as some of those teams making it to the NCAA tournament. The competition in the Southern Conference last year was really tight, so we anticipate another great year of tough lacrosse as we close out our season. The team is excited to host the SoCon tournament here on campus and we hope our regular season prepares us to go far into postseason!"
Furman opens the season inside Paladin Stadium on February 9 versus High Point, before hitting the road to take on Davidson on February 16. The Paladins then return to Greenville to close out the month of February with Presbyterian and Vanderbilt on the 20th and 24th, respectively.
The Paladins travel to Johns Hopkins for a March 2 matchup, before taking on Campbell and Liberty inside Paladin Stadium on March 6 and 9, respectively. Furman then plays host to Butler on March 15, before traveling to former ASUN foes Stetson and Jacksonville on March 29 and 31.
The Paladins then play back-to-back home games, taking on Kennesaw State on April 5 and opening SoCon play against Mercer on April 7. Furman hits the road for back-to-back SoCon games against Detroit Mercy and Central Michigan on April 12 and 14, before closing out the home portion of the regular season against Delaware State and Howard on April 18 and 20.
The Paladins end the regular season with a road game against the newest women's lacrosse program in the SoCon – Wofford – on April 27.
Furman then returns to Greenville to host the 2019 SoCon Tournament inside Paladin Stadium on May 2/4.
