Greenville, S.C. – Behind six points (four goals, two assists) from Hannah Demis and holding a 6-1 lead at half, Furman women's lacrosse overpowered Butler, 13-2, on Friday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves Furman to 3-5 on the year, while the loss drops the Bulldogs to 3-6.
Demis led all scorers with four goals and two assists, while Grace Pollak added three goals and an assist for four points. Sophie Brennan (three goals) and Abby Shields (one goal, two assists) each finished with three points on the day, while Kyra LaMotte and Isabelle Walsh each added a goal. Courtney Baker played all 60:00 in goal, allowing just two goals and making 11 saves.
Furman jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, capped off with back-to-back goals from Sophie Brennan, before Butler cut the lead to 4-1 on a free position attempt. The Paladins then used back-to-back goals from Demis and LaMotte to take a 6-1 lead into the halftime locker rooms.
Furman pushed the lead to 7-1, before the Bulldogs cut to back to five at 7-2 with just under 21:00 remaining. Isabelle Walsh gave the Paladins an 8-2 lead with 13:30 to go, before Grace Pollak netted three-straight goals to push the lead to 11-2 with 7:00 remaining. Demis and Brennan closed out the game's scoring, giving the Paladins the 13-2 victory.
Furman is back in action on Friday, March 29, taking on Stetson in a 3:00 p.m. matchup in Deland, Fla.
