Greenville, S.C. – Behind a 14-0 first half, Furman downed Howard, 22-0, on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves Furman to 9-7 on the year, while the loss drops the Bison to 0-12.
Fourteen different players scored for the Paladins, led by four seniors – Isabelle Walsh (three goals), Abby Shields (two goals), Sophie Brennan (two goals) and Hannah Fienberg (three goals). Shields also added five assists on the day, tying her own school single-game record, for a team-high seven points. Grace Pollak and Leah Nonnenman added two goals each, while Hannah Demis added a goal and a record-tying five assists.
Furman opened the game with five goals in the first four minutes, then pushed the lead to 11-0 on six straight-goals by the seniors. Lanier Mason picked up her third goal of the year to make it 12-0 with 12:30 to go, before the Paladins netted two more goals to take a 14-0 halftime lead.
Eight different Paladins scored in the second half, including Avery Whitehead, who netted her second goal of her career, giving the Paladins the school-record 22-0 victory.
Furman is back in action next Saturday, taking on Wofford in a 12:00 p.m. matchup in Spartanburg for the regular-season finale.
