Shields Named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week

Greenville, S.C. – Furman's Abby Shields has been named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week, it was announced today based on voting completed by the league office. The nod is Shields' second of her senior season and the sixth of her career. 

The Vero Beach, Fla., native turned in five goals in the regular-season finale against Wofford on Saturday, adding two assists for a team-high-tying seven points. Shields' five goals were a season high, adding to her school record career-goals scored total and leading the Paladins to an 18-5 win over the Terriers.

The SoCon Regular season co-champion Paladins are back in action on Thursday, opening the SoCon tournament as the No. 3 seed, taking on No. 2 seed Detroit Mercy inside Paladin Stadium. Opening draw is set to begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the 5:00 p.m. contest between No. 1 seed Mercer and No. 4 seed Central Michigan.
