Women’s Lacrosse Set to Host 2019 Southern Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship

Greenville, S.C. – Furman women's lacrosse returns to action on Thursday night, playing host to the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship inside Paladin Stadium. The Paladins, the No. 3 seed, are set to take on No. 2 seed Detroit Mercy in the second of two games on Thursday. No. 1 seed Mercer takes on No. 4 seed Central Michigan at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Paladins and Titans approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Furman, Mercer, and Detroit Mercy all earned a share of the 2019 Southern Conference regular season title, each finishing the league at 4-1. Due to the three-way tie, Mercer earned the No. 1 seed based on conference goal differential and Detroit Mercy earned the No. 2 seed thanks to a head-to-head victory over the Paladins earlier this season.

The Paladins are coming off an 18-5 regular-season finale win at Wofford on Saturday. Senior Abby Shields turned in a team-high-tying seven points (five goals, two assists) en route to being named the final SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the 2019 season. Shields, along with Grace Pollak, Sophie Brennan, Morgan Franklin, and Courtney Baker, was named to the All-SoCon First Team, while Avery Whitehead picked up second team honors for the Paladins.

The winner of Thursdays matchups will meet on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. inside Paladin Stadium for the SoCon Championship and a trip to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament. All three games this weekend will be streamed on ESPN+. Fans can find live stat and video links for Furman's games on and can follow @FUWlax for periodic game updates.
