Greenville, S.C. -- Furman juniors Kellsey Weaver and Erin O'Hearn were selected to the preseason All-Southern Conference squad, while the Paladins were picked to finish third in the league standings this season in polling of the SoCon's 10 head coaches, it was announced on Thursday.

Weaver, a native of Newnan, Ga., paced the SoCon with a 0.67 goals against average and posted a 10-2-2 record between the pipes last season to lead Furman to a share of the conference regular season title and secure first team all-league accolades. She allowed only one goal in over 700 minutes of play against league opposition as the Paladins established a new single season school record by surrendering just 11 total goals in 2017.

A product of Savannah, Ga., O'Hearn registered a goal and two assists last season while playing along the back line and in the Paladin midfield. She netted the lone goal in a 1-0 triumph at The Citadel as a sophomore and assisted on goals against both Maryland and Kennesaw State.

Samford was tabbed as the league's preseason favorite and garnered five first place votes. UNCG, who claimed the SoCon Tournament title last season, was picked to finish second with Furman, Western Carolina, ETSU, Mercer, Chattanooga, VMI, Wofford and The Citadel rounding out the poll.

Furman continues its preseason on Saturday when it travels to Clemson, S.C., for an exhibition versus the Clemson Tigers at Historic Riggs Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Paladins open the regular season on August 18, when they entertain the Richmond Spiders at Stone Soccer Stadium.
