Auburn, Ala. -- No. 13 Auburn pounded out 14 hits and scored nine runs to improve to 6-0 on the season with a 9-1 victory over Furman in the finale of the Plainsmen Invitational on Saturday night at Jane B. Moore Field.

Sunday afternoon's contest between Furman (2-2) and Auburn (6-0) was cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather tomorrow.

National pitcher of the year candidate Kaylee Carlson fanned five Furman batters without issuing a walk and allowed just an unearned run on three hits over six innings to improve to 3-0 in the circle.

Auburn got on the board in the first with Justus Perry's RBI grounder and a second run scored on a Furman throwing error. Alyssa Rivera drove in a run in the third inning and Tannon Snow followed several batters later with a two-run blast to up the Auburn lead to 5-0.

Furman and Auburn traded runs in the fifth before Auburn plated three in the bottom of the sixth inning to trigger the mercy rule.

Freshman Marissa Guimbarda took the loss for Furman in her first collegiate appearance in the circle after allowing eight earned runs over 5.1 innings or work.

Victoria Draper and Perry each went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers, while Perry joined Snow in driving in three runs. Carolina Cash doubled for the Paladins.

The Paladins open the 2018 home schedule on Friday, February 16, against Colgate. The doubleheader at Pepsi Stadium is slated to start at 3 p.m.
