Greenville, S.C. -- Senior Lindsey Bert tossed a five-hit shutout in game one and Emily DeMonte delivered a walk-off home run in game two to pace Furman to a 1-0, 4-3 doubleheader sweep of the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

The win extended Furman's winning streak to eight games and improved the Paladins to 14-3 on the season. The Hoosiers slipped to 2-13.

In game one, Bert fanned seven batters and walked just one over seven innings to get her first of two wins on the day.

The Paladins took the lead in the bottom of the first when Caroline Cash reached on an error, stole second and scored on Candace Johnson's single up the middle.

Indiana put the leadoff runner on base in four of the seven innings, but catcher Emma Ogburn threw out three attempted base stealers and Bert worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning with a pop up to second base and a strikeout to blank the visitors.

Tara Trainer (1-8) took the loss for Indiana after allowing an unearned run on just two hits in six innings. She fanned nine batters and issued two walks.

In the second game, DeMonte broke a 3-3 tie with a walk-off homer to left field to leadoff the bottom of the seventh to give the Paladins their eighth straight victory.

After Indiana grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third, Furman jumped on top with two outs in the bottom of the fourth as Bert doubled to center field and AnnaRose Borrelli followed with a two-run blast down the right field line. The Hoosiers evened the game on an RBI groundout by Rebecca Blitz in the fifth before Cash belted a solo shot to right field with one out in the sixth to give the Paladins a 3-2 lead.

A pair of singles set the table for the Hoosiers in the top of the seventh and Taylor Uden kept IU alive with a game-tying, sacrifice fly to right field to plate Gabbi Jenkins. DeMonte put Furman in front for good by driving an 0-1 pitch out of the park for her first home run of the season in the bottom of the frame.

Bert got the win to improve to 8-2. She allowed a run on two hits in one and a third innings of relief. DeMonte got a no decision after allowing two runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings of work. She walked two and struck out one.

Reliever Josie Wood (1-4) took the loss for the Hoosiers after giving up one run on three hits in two-thirds innings of work.

Bert and Borrelli each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Paladins, while Blitz, Sarah Galovich and Makayla Ferrari collected two hits apiece for the Hoosiers.

Furman returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Mount St. Mary's in a twinbill at Pepsi Stadium. The Paladins cap the weekend with a noon first pitch versus Delaware State on Sunday.
