Clearwater, Fla. -- Senior Emily DeMonte hurled a two-hit, complete-game shutout and sophomore Marissa Guimbarda homered for the sixth time in the last seven games to lead Furman past Middle Tennessee, 4-0, in the final game of the USF-Clearwater Parks & Recreation Invitational Sunday morning at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.

DeMonte (5-6), a native of Sumter, S.C., faced just one more than the minimum and needed only 66 pitches to pick up her third win of the weekend. She allowed an infield single to the first batter she faced before retiring 18 straight batters.

The Paladins' Lauren Duggar led off the game with a triple into the right-center field gap and scored when Guimbarda smacked a two-run homer to the opposite field, her seventh roundtripper of the season. Taylor Vahle extended the lead to 3-0 with an RBI single in the fourth inning and Duggar batted in Amanda Fleming in the top of the seventh after the sophomore walked, stole second and moved to third base on a passed ball.

Starter Kailey Ahlstrom (3-4) suffered the loss for MTSU after allowing three runs on five hits in three-plus innings in the circle. Summer Burgess collected both hits for the Blue Raiders (11-11).

Guimbarda and Cammy Pereira each tallied two hits for the Paladins, while Fleming posted a single and base on balls as Furman finished the weekend with a 3-2 mark.

Head coach Wally King's Paladins return to action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with a single game versus the USF Bulls in Tampa, Fla. Fans can follow live statistics through StatBroadcast at FurmanPaladins.com and can find in-game updates via Twitter by following @FurmanSoftball.
