Central Connecticut State Holds Off Furman Softball, 3-1

Clearwater, Fla. -- Central Connecticut State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat Furman, 3-1, in softball action Friday afternoon at the USF-Clearwater Parks & Recreation Showcase at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla.

Rian Eigenmann reached base on a leadoff single and scored on Kaitlin Paterson's RBI base hit in the first inning to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. After Furman loaded the bases with nobody out and failed to score in the top of the third inning, CCSU (4-1) executed a double steal to up the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third and Sydney Bolan's RBI single extended the margin to 3-0.

Furman loaded the bases again with one out in the fourth as Mackense Greico doubled, Sarah Windham worked a walk and Casey Bigham reached on an infield single. Cammy Pereira, however, line into a double play to end the threat.

In the seventh inning, Bigham reached base on a leadoff single and scored on Lauren Duggar;s single through the right side, but CCSU starter Carly Stoker (2-0) retired the next two batters to secure the win. She surrendered just one run on five hits over seven innings while walking four batters, hitting three batters and fanning four.

Greico (0-7), who allowed three runs in three innings of work, suffered the loss for Furman. Duggar and Bigham paced the Paladin offense with two hits apiece.
