Greenville, S.C. -- Senior Emily DeMonte tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout and freshman Mackense Greico drove in both runs to lead Furman to a 2-0 win over Chattanooga in the finale of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

DeMonte allowed just one hit over her final four innings of work and issued just two walks on the day while fanning two batters to improve to 8-10 in the circle. The Sumter, S.C., native also ignited the Furman offense in the bottom of the second with a double down the left field line and scored on Greico's double to right-center to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead.

Chattanooga threatened to tie the game in the top of the sixth before Furman's defense stopped the rally. Natalie Morgan erased a base runner by throwing out an attempted base stealer and Taylor Vahle gunned down a runner at third base from right field to end the inning following Emma Sturdivant's two-out single.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth and Furman clinging to a 1-0 advantage, Greico lined a solo home run over the left field fence to double the lead. DeMonte hit a batter with one out in the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but the right-hander retired the next two batters to secure the victory.

Greico finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a homer.

Celie Hudson, who surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, took the loss for Chattanooga (23-8, 2-1 SoCon) She walked one batter and recorded three strikeouts.

Furman (9-20, 1-2 SoCon) returns to action March 30-31, with a three-game series at Samford. First pitch for next Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. ET.
