Greenville, S.C. -- Leadoff hitter Makenna Matthijs scored three runs and pitcher Stephanie Bryden hurled a shutout to help UNCG complete a three-game sweep of Furman with a 10-0 decision in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

Matthijs walked and scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Spartans a first inning lead before UNCG sent 10 batters to the plate and totaled five runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. Matthijs reached safely again to open the fourth inning and keyed a four-run Spartan rally that included RBI singles from Marisa Sholtes and Melanie Darges, an RBI ground out by Katie Stettler and a sacrifice fly by Samantha Lagrama.

Bryden improved to 17-6 in the circle with five shutout innings of work to notch her second victory of the weekend. The senior scattered four hits and allowed three walks while striking out seven Paladins.

Matthijs finished 2-for-3 at the plate and Delaney Cumbie went 3-for-3 with a double. Lagrama knocked in two runs.

Marissa Guimbarda (0-4) suffered the loss for Furman allowing six runs on seven hits over two innings. Morgan Smith entered the game in the third inning for her first collegiate appearance in the circle and allowed just two earned runs on four hits over three innings.

Cammy Pereira went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Paladins with a pair of stolen bases.

Furman returns to action at 6 p.m. on Wednesday with a single game at SEC foe South Carolina before traveling to face nationally-ranked Arkansas in a three-game series in Fayetteville, Ark., next Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14.
