No. 41 Furman Completes Double Header Sweep With 7-0 Victory Over Brenau

GREENVILLE, S.C.. -- No. 41 Furman swept Brenau, 7-0, Sunday to complete a double header sweep at the Mickel Tennis Center.  With the victory, Furman extends its winning streak to 15 matches and improves to 18-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.  The Golden Bears drop to 6-6 with the loss.

The Paladins won all three doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Senior Katty Weymouth and freshman Madison Dillon downed P. Charoensirisutthi and Rebecca Pijls, 6-1, at number one, and sophomores Georgie Walker and Carol Elizabeth Kerman topped Kirsten Dickins and Evelin Gouveia, 6-1, at flight two.  In the number three contest, freshmen Eva Borders and Mary Hunter Hyche and held off Valentina Pabon and Juana Zambrano, 7-5.

Furman swept the singles matches in straight sets.  Junior Katarina Kozarov, who ranks 88th nationally, defeated Pijls, 6-1, 6-0, at flight one, and freshman Julia Adams beat Charoensirisutthi, 6-1, 6-2, at number two.  At flight three, Dillon posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Zambrano, and Walker downed Dickins, 6-1, 6-1, at flight four.  Hyche defeated Gouveia, 6-2, 6-4, at number five, and Borders completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 advantage over Pabon at number six.

"I am really proud of the effort our team brought all day today," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.  "This group does such a good job of taking care of the small things every day that it is no surprise that we improving so quickly.  We are excited to get into the bulk of our SoCon schedule next week and to make a few more improvements before we begin post season play."

The Paladins (18-1, 2-0 SoCon) will entertain Mercer Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
