Furman Hits The Road For Key SoCon Match Ups This Weekend

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 45th-ranked Furman women's tennis team hits the road for key Southern Conference match ups at Samford and Chattanooga this weekend.  The Paladins are looking to extend their 17-match winning streak Friday at Samford.  First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala.

Furman holds a 20-1 overall record and 4-0 SoCon mark after defeating Mercer and Wofford last week.  The Paladins are led by junior Katarina Kozarov, who ranks 69th nationally and holds a 15-3 record at flight one singles.  Kozarov and rookie Julia Adams are ranked 40th nationally in doubles.  The Paladin duo sports an 11-1 mark at flight one this season after beating the 31st-ranked team recently at Winthrop.

Freshman Madison Dillon is 20-1 in singles, while sophomore Carol Elizabeth Kerman boasts an 13-2 singles mark.  In doubles action, Kozarov and rookie Julia Adams rank 71st nationally and hold a 12-2 record at flight one, and Dillon has teamed with senior Katty Weymouth for a 14-1 mark.

"This weekend is always a big one for us," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.  "We have had very tough matches with both of these teams in the past couple of years, so we know they are going to push us to play our best tennis, and we are looking forward to the challenge."

Samford enter's Friday's match at 10-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.  The Bulldogs lost to UNCG, 5-2, and Western Carolina, 4-3, last weekend.  Furman leads the all-time series, 11-4, after beating Samford, 5-2, in Greenville last season.

Following the match at Samford, the Paladins will travel to Chattanooga to face the Mocs at 11 a.m. on Sunday.  Chattanooga is 8-8 overall and 1-3 in the SoCon.  The Mocs will square off against UNCG on Saturday before entertaining Furman on Sunday.  The Paladins hold a 37-9 series advantage after beating the Mocs twice in 2018.  Furman won the regular season contest, 5-2, in Greenville, then defeated Chattanooga, 4-0, in the semifinals of the SoCon Championships.
