No. 45 Furman Remains Unbeaten In SoCon Play With 7-0 Victory At Chattanooga

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- No. 45 Furman remained unbeaten in Southern Conference play with a 7-0 victory at Chattanooga Sunday at the Stang-Voges Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.  With the win, Furman extended its winning streak to 19 and improves to 22-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in league play.  The Mocs fall to 8-10 overall and 1-5 in the SoCon with the loss.

Due to inclement weather, the teams played indoors and started the match with singles, where Furman swept all six matches in straight sets.  Junior Katarina Kozarov, who ranks 69th nationally, blew past Delaney Edwards, 6-1, 6-1, at flight one, and senior Katty Weymouth held off Polina Goloputova, 6-0, 7-6(6), at number two.  At flight three, freshman Julia Adams posted a 6-2, 6-2 advantage over Caroline Hall, and freshman Madison Dillon beat Bogdana Zaporozhets, 6-1, 6-0, at number four.  Sophomore Carol Elizabeth Kerman outlasted Emma Van Hee, 6-4, 6-4, at flight five, and at flight six, sophomore Georgie Walker topped Annie Tarwater, 6-1, 6-2.

The teams then moved to doubles, where Furman won all three matches to take the point.  Kozarov and Adams, who rank 71st nationally, defeated Edwards and Van Hee, 6-2, at flight one, and Dillon and Weymouth combined for a 7-6(3) victory over Goloputova and Zaporozhets at flight two.  At number three, Kerman and Walker pushed past Hall and Tarwater, 6-4.

"This was a great weekend for our team, and I am really proud of them," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen.. "Playing singles first is something we have not done this year, and we came out and sharp and took care of business."

Furman (22-1, 6-0 SoCon) concludes the regular season Saturday when the Paladins entertain ETSU at noon at the Mickel Tennis Center in a battle of the league's two unbeaten teams.  Furman will honor Weymouth for Senior Day in the final home match of her career.
