GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman junior Katarina Kozarov is one of 64 singles players selected to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, which will be held May 20-25 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., after the conclusion of the team championship.
Kozarov, who is the first Paladin to compete in the tournament since Monica Arguello in 2011, is currently ranked 75th nationally and earned the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Singles Championships. A native of Novi Sad, Serbia, she was voted the 2019 Southern Conference Player of the Year, earning the honor for the second-consecutive season. A first team all-conference selection for both singles and doubles, Kozarov put together a 21-3 record at flight one singles and was a perfect 7-0 in league play.
"This is a huge accomplishment for Katarina," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen. "Reaching the NCAA Championships is a goal she has been working toward since she got to Furman, and I am so excited for her to have this opportunity. Katarina has improved so much this year, and we cannot wait for the NCAA tournament!"
Pairings for the competition will be announced at a later date. All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
