Andrea Fisher Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Spartanburg, S.C. – Furman volleyball junior Andrea Fisher was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced today. The award is voted on by the conference office and highlights athletic and academic achievement. 

This is the first Student-Athlete of the Week honor for the business major, who holds a 4.0 GPA, and was also named this week's SoCon Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

Fisher, who transferred to Furman after playing two years at Syracuse, averaged 4.10 kills per set over two matches last week, putting down 41 kills in 120 swings. She set a new career-high in kills in the win over Wofford on Wednesday with 20, before topping that with a 21-kill performance at Georgia Southern on Friday. The Burlington, Ontario native leads the Paladins with four double-doubles on the season after adding a career-high 18 digs to her stat line on Friday. She also tallied a season-high five blocks against the Eagles. 

The Paladins were 2-0 last week, including a win at Georgia Southern, stretching their winning streak to five games. The victory was Furman's first at Georgia Southern since October 30, 2009.

The Paladins are back in SoCon action on Friday, as they travel to Appalachian State.
