Spartanburg, S.C. – Furman setter Jo Wilks was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, in voting conducted by the conference office, it was announced today. It's the second-consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award of the season for the Paladins, who went 3-0 over the weekend and won the Carolina Classic.
Wilks, a native of Union Grove, Wis., averaged 12.54 assists per set during the Carolina Classic, leading Furman to wins over Winthrop, Clemson, and South Carolina. The senior notched 49 assists against Winthrop, 59 versus Clemson and 55 against South Carolina and helped the Paladins out-hit their opponents .241-.143 (188 kills to 150 kills). The senior also posted 33 digs across the three matches and added three aces against the Gamecocks in the final match of the tournament. Wilks, who leads the SoCon with 11.76 assist per set, was named Carolina Classic MVP for her efforts.
Western Carolina libero Elyssa Mulheron was named Defensive Player of the Week.
The Paladins are back in action this weekend as they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., for the Holiday Inn University Plaza Invitational. The Paladins face Northwestern on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (ET) before taking on tournament-host and 20th-ranked Western Kentucky on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
