Greenville, S.C. – Furman volleyball returns to action this weekend, playing host to Western Carolina and UNCG on Friday and Saturday. Both matches will be shown live on the SoCon Digital Network.
The Paladins (10-7, 4-0 SoCon) are coming off a 3-1 win at The Citadel on Tuesday night. Nicole Mack tied a career-high with 15 kills and was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Jamila Johnson was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for September and ranks second in the conference with 4.22 kills per set and third with 270 kills.
Western Carolina (6-11, 1-3 SoCon) comes to Alley Gym after back-to-back losses last weekend, including being swept by Mercer in one of the longest three-set matches in SoCon history. The opening set featured 15 set points before Mercer took a 40-38 decision. The second set also went into extra points as the Bears hung on to win 33-31, but Mercer was able to down the Catamounts 25-18 in the third. Abigail Veit leads the Catamounts in kills with 172 on the year, while Gabby Gray is close behind with 150.
UNCG enters the weekend at 9-7 and 2-2 in the Southern Conference. Ashley Muench leads the Spartan offense, hitting at a .259 average and recording 3.84 kills per set. Current SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Christina Gregory ranks second in the league with a 4.55 digs per set average.
