Furman Sweeps Wofford on Wednesday

Spartanburg, S.C. -- Behind 10 kills from Carris Campbell, Furman volleyball swept Wofford, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18, on Wednesday, to move to 2-0 inside Wofford's new Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The win moves Furman to 7-11 on the year, 3-4 in SoCon play, while the loss drops the Terriers to 9-11, 2-5 in SoCon play. 

Campbell put down a match-high 10 kills, while adding two blocks. Neci Harris added eight kills, while Courtney Hoffman and Jamila Johnson each added five kills. Meg DeMaar picked up a match-high 16 digs, while Abbey Crawford and Hunter Thompson each added 11. The Paladins tallied a season-high nine aces, while limiting Wofford to three.

Wofford jumped out to a 7-5 lead in the first set, but Jamila Johnson served Furman on a 7-0 run to give the Paladins a 12-8 lead. The teams traded points until three-straight points by the Terriers pulled to within two at 15-13. A solo block by Carris Campbell put the Paladins back up three, the back-to-back Wofford attack errors pushed the Furman lead to 20-15, forcing the Terriers to take their final timeout of the set. Wofford pull back to within three at 23-20, but a kill by Campbell and a Wofford attack error gave the Paladins the 25-20 set one win.

The Terriers again claimed an early lead in set two, this time opening up a 5-1 advantage, but the Paladins used a 6-1 run to take a 7-6 lead. The teams traded points until Wofford grabbed a two-point lead at 15-13, then pushed the lead to three at 17-14, forcing the Paladins to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Meg DeMaar served the Paladins on a 5-0 run, giving Furman a 19-17 lead and prompting Wofford to call a timeout. Wofford battled back to tie the set at 20, but the Paladins ended it on a 5-0 run to take set two, 25-20, for a 2-0 match lead.

Jamila Johnson served Furman to an early 7-4 lead in the third, before back-to-back aces by Catie Cronister cut the Furman lead to one at 7-6. The teams traded points until, with the score tied at nine, Jordan McNeill served Furman on a 4-0 run to take a 13-9 lead and force the Terriers to take a timeout. The Paladins then pushed the lead to 17-11, forcing the Terriers to take their final timeout of the set. The teams traded points until back-to-back aces by Hunter Thompson gave the Paladins match point at 24-17. Wofford cut the lead to 24-18, but Carris Campbell's 10th kill of the night gave the Paladins the 25-18 set three win, and 3-0 match sweep.

Furman is back in action on Friday, hosting UNCG inside Alley Gym at 7:00 p.m.
