Greenville, S.C. – Furman volleyball hits the road this weekend, travelling to UNCG for a 7:00 PM Saturday matchup. Greensboro is the site of the 2018 SoCon Championship and Saturday's matchup is set to be broadcast on the SoCon Digital Network.
Furman (11-14, 8-7 SoCon) is coming off a midweek, five-set win over Upstate-rival Wofford. Carris Campbell put down a match-high 18 kills in her final game in Alley Gym, while senior Jamila Johnson added a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs. Senior Jordan McNeill also tallied a double-double, with 12 kills and 24 digs, while Hunter Thompson picked up Furman's third double-double of the night with 56 assists and 18 digs and Meg DeMaar tallied 20 digs and six assists for the Paladins. Freshman Neci Harris also added 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage on the night.
UNCG (11-15, 5-9 SoCon) will play host to Wofford on Friday night before welcoming the Paladins in on Saturday. The Spartans have had eight days off since their last SoCon match, where they fell to ETSU, 3-0. Holly Behrends leads the team with 2.76 kills per set, while Maria Esch is averaging 2.58 kills. In Esch's last 13 matches, the Williamsburg, Va., native is averaging a team-best 2.92 kills, while Allison Penner leads the team with 7.97 assists per set and averages 2.51 digs. Defensively, Christina Gregory leads the team with 4.12 digs per set. In the last seven matches, Stephanie Meysembourg leads the team with 3.97 digs per set and Penner is averaging 3.17 digs.
