2017-18 Furman SoCon Academic Honor Roll

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A total of 211 Furman student-athletes have been named to the 2017-18 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, which the league released today.

Furman's 211 selections represent the 20 intercollegiate sports offered by the university and approximately 52 percent of all team participants.

The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher, were eligible the entire academic year, and were members of the final squad lists.

Ten Paladins garnered perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the 2017-18 school year:  Kevin Edelmann (men's soccer/business administration, Dylan Rowe (men's soccer/physics), Drew Singerman (men's tennis/undeclared), Lauren Duggar (softball/health sciences), Brittany Houston (softball/health sciences), Jacquelyn Crow (women's cross country/track & field/psychology), Jacqueline Bendrick (women's golf/biology), Morgan Franklin (women's lacrosse/biology), Abby DeMare (women's soccer/political science), and Danni Vines (women's tennis/undeclared).

Thirty six Paladins garnered SoCon Commissioner's Medals, which were accorded student-athletes sporting GPAs of 3.8 or better.  This standard was raised from 3.5 beginning in 2015-16.
