Bunn, Wood Power Furman To Fourth Straight Win With 73-44 Triumph Over Western Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C -- Whitney Bunn scored 21 points, including 17 in the second half, and Tiara Wood claimed a career high 15 rebounds to power Furman to a 73-44 triumph over Western Carolina in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

The win, the second largest points-wise against a SoCon foe in head coach Jackie Carson's seven seasons at her alma mater, was the fourth straight for Furman (8-9, 2-0 SoCon) heading into Monday's six-game home stand finale against Bob Jones University.

Bunn,who scored just four points in the first half on 2-of-8 shooting, turned it up over the final two quarters, connecting on 6-of-8 attempts, including four 3-pointers, for 17 points second half points, which matched the Catamounts' entire tally over the game's final 20 minutes.  The 21-point performance by the Paladins' two-time All-SoCon point guard moved her up to eighth on Furman's career scoring ledger with 1,431 points.  Bunn also tacked on four assists to up her Furman career standard to 538, helping her vault to sixth in SoCon history.

Wood, meanwhile, topped her previous career high 10-rebound mark with 15 caroms, including eight on the offensive glass.  The senior forward also tallied six points.

Cierra Carter tallied 14 points while Le'Jzae Davidson followed up her career high 23-point effort in Thursday's win over UNCG with 12 points.

Furman led 32-27 at intermission and pulled away with a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Catamounts 26-10 on the strength of 11-of-16 shooting (68.8%) and eight points from Bunn for a 58-37 advantage after three periods.

The Paladins' lead grew to 71-37 following Bunn's final 3-pointer with 4:52 remaining, after which Carson cleared her bench.

Emily Hatfield's 10 points led Western Carolina (5-12, 0-2 SoCon).

Furman finished the game shooting 46.0 percent (29x63) while Western Carolina made just 17-of-56 shots (30.4%).
